World-renowned Drum & Bass duo Total Science are proud to present the sixth installment in their Audioworks album series.
Hailing from Oxford, Total Science aka Paul Smith & Jason Greenhalgh have been causing waves in the Drum & Bass community for over a decade, with a slew of high-profile hits including ‘Champion Sound’, ‘Dubplate’ ‘Squash’ & ‘Nosher’ to name a few. The pair’s eclectic sound has graced many of the best imprints in the Drum & Bass world, such as Metalheadz, 31 Records, Creative Source, Trouble On Vinyl and Hospital Records. On top of this the duo have managed to establish four quality imprints: CIA, Advanced, Skin Deep and Fix, in which to not only showcase their own diverse musical style but also to pave the way for up and coming artists whose styles are reflected in the paths that Total Science themselves have forged over the years. Of these four labels, CIA is the most prolific, having been backed with the aptitude and sharp ears of the pair themselves, and supported by the talent of dozens of exceptionally skilled producers. Whilst keeping themselves heavily involved in the mechanics of the Drum & Bass scene’s many aspects, Total Science have also been continually supplying fans with dancefloor smashers of every kind. The Audioworks series provides them with the opportunity to reach further audiences, including those not prone to the call of the decks. This CD series has showcased Total Science’s greatest musical moments over the years, and Volume 6 continues to deliver. This LP contains tunes inspired by places they have toured DJing including Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, Canada & USA, and is musical proof that Total Science continue to remain at the top of their game, remaining at the forefront of many of D&B’s sub-genres. From gorgeous pieces of Liquid Funk such as ‘Rainbow Kiss’ to wonky wobble-fest ‘Nosher’ which, with a little remix help from CIA protege, Baron, became one of the pioneering tunes championing the explosive jump-up movement of 2003/2004. ‘Rated X’ shows the duo’s continued fascination with the hard-core sounds of early days. This is one of Total Science’s signature sounds and attracted the attention of Goldie, who signed the duo’s hardcore/jump-up anthem ‘Defcom 69’ to help launch his label Metalheadz Platinum. Austrian-based D Kay (the man behind the Top 40 smash ‘Barcelona’) lends his skills to ‘Pop Psychology’. Keeping in tune with the original rendition's frenetic rhythms and pulsating bass, D Kay has amped up the flavour to maximum, re-working the synths and upping the ante on the basslines and snares. ‘Whitehouse’ (released as a single on Advanced) is a classic Total Science pressure-filled, grimey club workout. Dub dynamics, horn stabs and effortless rolling funky breaks will be sure to bust up the place in raucous fashion. Add to these more TS classics such as Rated X, Extra Curricular, Honeymoon, Gravy Girls, Creation and many more and you have an exciting LP so varied and full of flavours there is sure to be something for everyone! All titles featured are in their original full length format. |
