Single InformationCatalogue Number : NARC16 Release Date : Dec 1998 Label : Narcotix Inc AA. 'Taking It Back'By : The Stone Players
Dave Jay, the main man behind the ‘Stone Players’, has had almost ten years in the music business as a session musician/producer prior to his latest release on the ever expanding ‘Narcotix Beats’ label.
In addition to being the founder of ‘Phuture Assasins’ in 1989 (whose ‘Phuture Assasins Theme’ is credited by Andy Weatherall as being one of the first true trip-hop recordings), Dave has been employed as a vocalist/musician for groups as diverse as Acorn Arts (Hard Hands), Soul Hooligan (Freskanova), Wubble-U (Indolent) and Mr. Exe and The Clan (Acid Jazz). His keyboarding skills can also be heard on remixes of tracks such as E-17’s “House of Love†and Smart-E’s “Love is Blindâ€. Since joining the Narcotix collective, however, Dave has decided to concentrate solely on production duties for various Narcotix Beats/Lounge projects:
Such as 'Dilemma' Whose recent and storming downbeat track “Spring Box†(co-produced by Wubble-U’s Dave Coker) was mutated into drum n’ bass monster by man of the moment Matrix. Mighty Alliance A collaboration between Jay and various co-producers, intending to display the sweeter side of the ‘Narcotix Lounge’ catalogue. . . . . and now the Stone Players ‘Taking it Back’, a tribute to the essence of old-skool, comes equipped with a purely wicked ‘Soul Hooligan rmx’ on the A-side: a track that fuses together deep r n’ b basslines, hammond stabs and rap vocals to create what can only be described as ‘Pre-Millenial Northern Soul’. The flipside ‘Original Mix’ slows down the pace, delivering a rough and uncompromising mix of twisted bass, beats and sitar. Stone Players are now set to deliver the true story of do-it-yourself rebel music . . . . . . . . . |
